Going back to the gym tomorrow. I've taken some time off, worked out at home on the WiiFit and eaten a whole lot of sugary junk. So I am guessing I've gained weight, but I am not going near a scale because I hate them. They just make me sad. So instead of dwelling on the past week, I'm going to go to the gym tomorrow and get in a good sweat session. Hopefully Layla is feeling better so she can go and play, because I know how much she loves the gym.
New Years is coming up, and I think we all know what my resolution is going to be...weight loss.

Christmas
I have not been entirely neglecting my diet and exercise duties during this holiday week, but I have slipped a few times. I baked gingerbread cookies and icing from scratch all day Tuesday, and throughout the day I snacked on all the sugary goodness. It was bad. I had a sugar high, sugar crash, and that bad feeling when you eat too much junk food. So while baking all day on Wednesday I ate almost nothing. Almost nothing. I was making cake pops and cupcake bites, which are small, delicious candy coated goodness. I had to try a few of those, but once I was done I bagged up the majority of them for my friends and family as holiday treats. The weather has made it impossible for me to give them out to everyone, but this weekend I will hopefully be able to get them out. I'm not going to eat them! We only kept a small bag of the cupcake bites for Jeremy, Layla and I to share, and a small amount of gingerbread men. They're sitting in the kitchen staring at me.
I haven't been able to go to the gym so I worked out on the Wii today. I haven't been able to work out the past two days because I spent all day Wed in the kitchen and most of yesterday in the kitchen and at my in-laws for Christmas Eve dinner. Tonight we were sitting around after being lazy and I decided that I really needed a work out. We ate a lot of food yesterday and I needed some cardio! So I did a 30 minute free-run on the Wii Fit and I did a few of the strengthening exercises that focused on abs and I did some boxing. It was a good work out.
Jer made a healthy dinner tonight. We had the spicy brown mustard baked chicken and ride with broccoli. It was delic!!!
This weekend if the snow clears up I think we're going to try and do some hard core gym work outs to keep the momentum going and work off the extra calories we've been munching on this week.

Better Day
I ran a lot better today. Not my best run ever, but much better than yesterday. I ran for 23 minutes straight. Walking five minutes before and after. It felt really good. I noticed that my last few runs my quads have been hurting, and then I realized that in all my stretching I somehow miss that every time. So my quads have been cramping up. I corrected that today, and will continue to stretch properly.
I then worked out my quads and hamstrings and chased Layla around the back of the gym.
Go me!

No Energy Today

I was anticipating the gym all day, but once I got there, I had no drive to actually work out. I got on the treadmill ready to run, but once I started I just felt drained. I walked 5 minutes, ran 10 minutes, got on the elliptical for 10 minutes, got back on the treadmill for 15 minutes of uphill power-walking. I did get 40 minutes of intense cardio, but it just didn't feel good. It drained me! I guess I was expecting too much after yesterdays triumph and power-boost of endorphins. Man, I had such a runner's high and was looking forward to having another one again tonight.
Super bummed!
Well, tomorrow is another day and I hope to get a good work out in. I have a busy day baby-sitting for my best friend, but after that I will be hitting the gym again. Let's hope I can get it together and get some endorphins going!!! I'm going to make an effort to be mindful of what I ingest tomorrow, and try to eat foods that will give me energy.

ABS!!
While in the shower I flexed my ab muscles and dug real deep through all that fat to feel them, and....THEY'RE REALLY THERE! Don't be fooled by all that is covering it-fatty mama has got a strong belly!!
Runner's High
I had such a great runner's high today. I think I could've kept going and going, but the gym wasn't going to be open much longer and I really needed to do some weight training.
Here's how my run went down:
walk 5 min @ 3.5 warm up
run 17 min@ 4.3-4.4
stopped to changed Layla's poopy diaper.
run 15 min @ 4.4
run 5 min @ 4.5
walk 5 min @ 3.2 cool down
My stamina is getting back up to a great rate and speed. I feel like a runner again, which feels really good. It's hard on your body when you were once a great athlete and then going through so many changes in your body and no matter how hard you try you feel like you're stuck in a rut going no where. For the past year I've gone to the gym off and on and I always get discouraged because I feel like I'm going no where and that I'll never be able to do what I used to. Just these past weeks have been so great though. I think I like running on a treadmill at this point because I can see my progress by the numbers on the screen. I know you could track your progress by timing yourself on a track and if you run a certain distance faster than before, you've improved, but this is different. On a treadmill I know exactly how fast I'm running and what my limit is, when my limit gets too easy, I can make it go faster. I'm sure that once my stamina is at a better pace and time I will feel more comfortable running on the track or outside again.

A short term goal that I'm setting myself for the next two weeks is to be able to increase my run time and the pace that I run. By January 3rd I would like to be able to run for at least 15 minutes straight at 5 mph on the treadmill.
